Analyzing this site initially we found it had a solid foundation from which to start considering the decorative gate and columns, beautifully crafted rock work and appealing stamped concrete, most of which were designed by the English's. It did, however, lack an evergreen plant base, and flowering shrubs, annuals and perennials to help give the yard winter interest and the foundation plantings seemed too heavy on the left side of the front entrance. Mrs. English's goal for the front yard was to add a decorative fence to the gated area, bring in colorful evergreen plantings towards the street and soften the foundation plantings along the front of the house.

Mrs. English's goal for the back yard was to add cut flowers and evergreen shrubs in the sparse areas in her existing beds and to add new sod to freshen up the look. She also wanted to introduce moving water to the garden which we accomplished with a bright blue, bird-friendly water jar.

Mrs Jones' goal for the front yard was to create a sense of privacy from the traffic on the main thoroughfare and to add pedestrian access from the side street for guests. We accomplished this by adding a plant barrier between the street and front yard and by creating an arch from an existing hedge and adding a flagstone path for access to the front entrance.

Mrs. Jones' primary goal in the courtyard was to eliminate the lawn by creating new planting beds with a mix of evergreen shrubs and cut flowers and a flagstone seating area to enjoy the garden.
